Watching the waves 9.8.2011 part 2

The second stop on the "Old Folks Watching the Waves" tour was Ponquogue Beach. It was really interesting how different the beach was here compared to the beach at Rogers. At Rogers, the beach was pretty much gone and the water was coming all the way up to the boardwalk. It seemed as though the waves were much bigger and rougher, also. At Ponquogue, the beach was still very wide and there was a giant pool. The breakers were still rolling in one right after another, but even though they were big, they didn't seem to me to be as big as at Rogers. Not that I would have wanted to be swimming around out there. ;)

Last week David and I took a ride down to the beach to see the effects of Hurricane Katia passing by off the coast. I took a gazillion pictures (Hey. It's digital, right? ;)) at each of the three beaches we went to. Here are a few of my favorites from our first stop, Rogers Beach.

Scenes from Thanksgiving

We had a great time at Sean and Lisha's on Thanksgiving. Here are a few shots from the day...

I love that Caleb had no problem sitting at the table with all these adults that he doesn't really know to enjoy some of Lisha's stromboli with them.

Reed wanted to play the guitar for us, but sadly the batteries didn't work. 

There were 4 little boys at the party -- Joshua and these three. Reed, Caleb and Aidan (the son of Sean and Lisha's friend, Jen) were all about the same age and got along so well together.

Reed takes a little break -- in the middle of the kitchen floor, of course!

Have I mentioned the family's "Goofy" gene?

Caleb announced that he needed a tiny nap. Believe me, it was tiny alright. 

"I think he's saying something. If I only knew what."

Not even 5 months old yet and Joshua is already sitting up by himself!

A few of us wandered up to the beach to watch the sun go down and were treated to this spectacular sight. Truly one of the most amazing sunsets I've seen. A perfect way to end our wonderful day of giving thanks!

Shadow

I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me, 
And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.

Cupsogue 062808

After we finished our "family photo shoot", everyone decided it was time to eat, so we headed over to Cupsogue Beach down by the inlet where they have a place to dine and also, in the evenings, a live band. It was a pleasant way to feed and entertain everyone all at once. After we ate and listened to the music for awhile, we wandered down to the beach where the kids burned off some energy (where do they get that stuff??) and the "older" family members enjoyed the cool breeze and the sights and sounds of the beautiful ocean we are so lucky to have practically in our backyard. Here are a few shots from Cupsogue with lots more to be seen here. Spring day, continued

When we arrived at the little beach, Caleb was ready to take off his skates and spend some time exploring. It was so nice and warm and there were lots of shells and things to discover. A wonderful afternoon!

A beautiful day for the beach, so off we went. We had quite a crew there, too. (They didn't call Westhampton Culvertown for nothing!) Sean and Lisha were there with Reed; Emma, Jonah and Sabine came with Sherry; Lissa arrived with her five (Noah, Sam, Phoebe, Micah and Seth - if you recall); and Bob Bender showed up with Emma and Chris. The kids found plenty to do, so the adults didn't spend too much time sitting! ; )
