Favorite picture challenge

Here's one of my favorite pictures (for the challenge issued by Caleb Nation). This oldie but goodie was taken at Gobby and PopPop's sometime in the mid 70s. (If you know exactly when, please let me know!) I love it for several reasons. (1) Here is photographic proof that I haven't always been old. (2) It's fun to think that I actually made that dress I am wearing on purpose. (Aqua colored checks with flocked daisies!) (3) Everyone's personalities can be seen in the picture. If you know our family, take a close look and see if you don't agree. ;)

Let me start by saying that this little guy's mommy and daddy were the ones to first notice a "vague resemblance" to the other little critter. And they didn't mind if I brought the similarities to your attention...

The worst hair of my life

In response to Caleb Nation's "bad hair" challenge, I present you with the following. I had gone for a body wave -- which, for those of you too young to know, was a perm that didn't give you curls, just more body. I'm not sure exactly what went wrong (I'm trying to give the hairdresser the benefit of the doubt here), but, when the rollers were taken out my hair was a mass of fried frizz. A huge knot developed in my stomach, but being the sweet person I am ;) I tried to make the best of it in front of the hairdresser. She was clearly worried and kept saying stuff like, "It will relax a bit after a few shampoos" (false!) and "It will be fine after we blow it out." (The reason for the body wave was to eliminate the blow drying and just let it dry naturally in pretty soft waves. And anyway, blow drying just made it frizzier!) When I got home, I flew in the door yelling, "I hate it! I hate it!". Poor David didn't know what to do and he kept saying, "It's not that bad." It was quite a bad hair day which turned into bad hair months... and months... and months while it all grew out.
P.S. I've never had another perm (or body wave (hah!)) since. And that was almost thirty years ago!

A bit of a challenge

As I was looking through some of Amy's pictures, I came across these two (can you guess who these cuties are?) and was struck by the similarities. Leah suggested a challenge, so here we go. Post any pictures you may have that show "look-a-likes". To add to the fun, don't tell us who they are. We'll see if we can guess and also see if we agree that they are "look-a-likes".

Collections

I guess if you live long enough it's possible to amass quite a number of collections. Over the years, I've collected turtles, cookbooks (especially the kind that have the plastic spirals and are published by the ladies at a church  or the mothers of the preschool or the wives of the firemen), teapots, teddy bears, baskets, decorative tins, Precious Moments, tiny ceramic/porcelain boxes, decorative plates with babies on them, and fabric to name just a few. I love containers and have a hard time walking past any new one. I have a fair number of old movies, which I love. At one time, I thought I would collect diamonds and, despite my mentioning this to a few people, that collection never really got off the ground. I absolutely love books and the people at Amazon (the world's largest bookstore) know me very well. My family would say that I love to collect the latest "tech toy" and I won't try to deny that. (I am very eager to get my hands on the iPhone. Sadly, it's not coming out until June.) I can't throw away anything that has any family history to it. I even have an old receipt from Eckart's in WHB because my father's signature is on it. Perhaps one of my favorite collections are my family pictures, That is a collection that I will never give up and I add to it all the time. When we used to live in the big house on Baycrest I was able to  keep up with all these  different collections because we had so much room. Now, most of them reside in boxes in the barn.  If anyone wants to start their own collection of say, baskets or Precious Moments or something, let me know. We might be able to work something out. (This offer doesn't apply to my "tech toys" or my pictures though. Sorry. A girl has to draw the line somewhere.) Oh, and if, as they say, when you have three of something, you have a collection, then I also collect dust bunnies.

Is the Caleb Nation Challenge still on?

So, here's the deal. I went through a whole box of pictures looking for some to enter into the CN Challenge. (Don't want to break the Prince's heart, for sure!) These are all that I found of David with the kids -- it must have been a "Heath Box". One picture includes Sean though. And these are not any of the pictures I was thinking of. So, I will continue to look through the boxes and post additional pictures as I find them. The challenge doesn't have an expiration date, does it???

Red

Planet Mancuso has issued a challenge entitled "Red". This long ago memory about red popped into my mind.

Many years ago when I was very little, my mother was getting me dressed for preschool. She dressed me in red overalls, red ribbons in my hair and a PINK blouse! I vividly remember protesting this color combo. I cried to my mother that everyone would laugh at me and that it looked terrible together. She, however, told me that this particular color selection was the height of fashion (this was the 50s), it looked wonderful on me, no one would laugh and I was going to be wearing it. After a looksee in the mirror, I did begin to see the possibility that I did, maybe, possibly, look okay and actually I kind of liked it. But, the being laughed at thing was still a big worry for my little 4 year old self. But, off to school we went. And you know what? Mom was right. No one laughed -- didn't even snicker -- and I actually received many compliments that day. Another case of Mom knows best. By the way, if you decide to try this color combo yourself, be advised the shades of red and pink need to be just right...! ;)
